About The Week Of Action

BUILDING ONE NEW YORK THAT WORKS FOR #ALLOFUS

This is our moment. It’s a new day, New York.

The sun is setting on a city run by and for the 1%. A new day is dawning — and we are rising, together. In 2014, we’ll have a new mayor, a new City Council and new citywide officials. Our city and state governments can and should begin a new era – by stopping the special deals for Wall Street and the people who have rigged the system and building a city that works for all of us. To make progress, we’ll fight to to stop the unchecked power of the 1%, break the links between big-money interests and the politicians that serve them, demand development policies that build broad prosperity not wealth for a tiny few, and support organizing to boost paychecks for low-wage workers. Join us during the first week of December as we build a New York that works for #AllOfUs.

STOP THE SPECIAL DEALS FOR WALL STREET & BIG BANKS

Close the loopholes, stop the giveaways, enforce the laws & demand accountability.

FIGHT INEQUALITY & BUILD ECONOMIC FAIRNESS

GOOD JOBS & DECENT WAGES FOR ALL OF US

Local control of the minimum wage, smart economic policy to ensure the wages workers earn are high enough to support themselves and their families and the right to organize.

QUALITY EDUCATION PREK TO HIGHER-ED FOR ALL OF US

Universal pre-K paid for by fair-share taxes, new investments in higher education and adult education, less student debt and an end to special giveaways to politically connected charter schools to give every child from every neighborhood an opportunity to rise together.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING & HEALTHCARE FOR ALL OF US

Development for everyone, not just for global billionaires and strong tenant protections will make our city more livable. Prioritize community hospitals and strong public health – not more luxury condos for the 1%.

REAL DEMOCRACY FOR ALL OF US

Get big money out of New York politics with comprehensive campaign finance reform and public financing of elections, to give everyday New Yorkers a stronger voice in city and state government.

MASS RALLY AND ACTION

THURSDAY DECEMBER 5 @ 4:30 PM

FOLEY SQUARE

ACTIONS ALL WEEK DECEMBER 3rd-9th

DECEMBER 3

STOP THE WALL STREET RIPOFFS

The New Day New York Coalition issues an in-depth report on Wall Street ripoffs: “One New York for All of Us: Leveraging New York’s Financial Power to Combat Inequality.”

We’ll call on government officials to renegotiate New York’s relationship with Wall Street to save money for taxpayers, raise revenue for essential city services like education and transportation, and make banks meet high ethical and labor standards if they want city business.

DECEMBER 4

FIGHT INEQUALITY

Actions all day focused on the drivers of inequality in New York targeting banks, corporations and individuals that have opposed a fair deal for workers, advocating for affordable housing, keeping money out of politics, and relieving debt for working New Yorkers.

We’ll flood the streets downtown and all over town to show New Yorkers what’s wrong with the city that Bloomberg built and how new policies, new ideas and new activism can make our city more prosperous and more fair.

DECEMBER 5

ONE NEW YORK THAT WORKS FOR ALL OF US
Mass Rally & Creative Actions

Mass rally and creative actions at Foley Square starting at 4:30PM to cap off an energetic day of low-wage worker actions around the city will bring together workers, students, activists, faith leaders and everyday New Yorkers who want to fight inequality and build a stronger, fairer city.

We’ll gather in Foley Square for music, speak-outs and creative actions, then move downtown for a brilliant display of art and activism that will demonstrate strong support for the upcoming fight against inequality and the effort to make New York work for all of us.

DECEMBER 9

A NEW DAY FOR NEW YORK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Parents, students, teachers and education advocates come together for an Education Day of Action to call for a quality education for all New York Students – from universal pre-k to preparing students for success in college and life.

New Day New York Coalition – The coalition includes dozens of New York’s leading community groups, faith congregations, labor unions and social service providers, as well as veterans of the May 12, Occupy Wall Street, Millionaires Tax, Minimum Wage, Paid Sick Days, Stop and Frisk, Immigrant Justice and other effective and successful New York City and New York State movements — all mobilizing to build One New York for #AllOfUs.
